PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - Educating students for 30 years. This month's Jan Dils Golden Apple Award winner goes to a teacher, students say is always willing to go well beyond the extra mile.
Lisa Berry is a chemistry and physics teacher at Parkersburg High School.
Students and teachers say she's fought for her students her entire career, always wanting the best for them and continuing supporting them into adulthood.
Berry recently went through chemotherapy, surgeries and radiation for stage three breast cancer, while continuing to educate her students.
Students say Berry is like a mother to them, giving advice and ensuring no child ever leaves her room hungry or without learning something.
"I've been here for so many years and the kids are like my own, I treat them all like family. I would just like to thank everybody for this blessing and let them know I get as much out of working with them as I hope they get from me," says Lisa Berry, award recipient.
Berry is the only teacher to ever win this award from PHS.
