PARKERSBURG, W.Va. - Update: 8/16/2017 5:45 P.M.
When the Parkersburg Homecoming Festival begins Friday, the stage where most of the major entertainment takes place will be in a slightly different location.
Homecoming committee members and Parkersburg Mayor Tom Joyce said Wednesday that the main entertainment stage will be placed this year directly at the intersection of Second and Avery Streets.
That puts it at the end of Second Street, near the Wood County Justice Center.
For the past ten years, the main stage had been in a private parking lot near the floodwall. That was after 20 years of it being located across Second Street from the back of the Bureau of the Fiscal Service (formerly Public Debt) building.
Homecoming Secretary Amanda Daugherty says, by relocating it, the festival committee was able to save $3,000-the cost of leasing the private Southern Parking lot.
Mayor Joyce says the city agreed to the change earlier this year, after meeting with committee members and the city police.
Officials say they know of no safety concerns or inconveniences resulting from the change.
The Parkersburg Homecoming Board and Committee says that despite financial setbacks, they were able to book two great acts.
Friday night performer, Russell Dickerson has performed on shows like “The Bachelorette" and the "Today Show."
Classic rocker Donnie Iris and The Cruisers are an act that Homecoming officials have been trying to book for a few years according to the entertainment director.
Entertainment Director Chuck Lipps says, "Russel Dickerson is our new up-and-coming country act for Friday this year August the 18th. Classic rocker Donnie Iris and the Cruisers, who's been huge, is from Pittsburgh area, and has a big following from the Cleveland market. We been inquiring about Donnie last couple of years and were able to get him booked this year."
Parkersburg Homecoming officials have announced the entertainment lineup for this year's festival on Aug. 18-19.
Up-and-coming country singer Russell Dickerson will perform on Friday, Aug. 18.
Donnie Iris and the Cruisers, a classic-rock group, will perform on Saturday, Aug. 19.
Both concerts will be at 8:30 p.m. at the main entertainment stage at 2nd and Avery streets in Parkersburg.
