Pedestrian killed while crossing Ohio Route 7 in Gallia County

CHESHIRE, Ohio (WTAP) - A man is dead after he was hit by a car on Monday while crossing Ohio Route 7 in Gallia County.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the accident happened at 6:36 A.M. on Monday, in Cheshire, Ohio.

Norman J. Schoonover, 78, of Cheshire, was crossing Ohio Route 7 when he was hit by a 2010 Chrysler Sebring traveling southbound, driven by Lisa Roush, 57, of Pomeroy, Ohio.

Ohio Route 7 was closed for around 3 hours as crews cleared the scene.

Police say Roush's car had to be towed from the scene.

The Gallia County Sheriff's Office, Gallia County EMS and Gallia County ODOT all responded to the scene.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
