LITTLE HOCKING, Ohio (WTAP) - One church in Ohio is building its own football field to reach youth in the community.
Porterfield Babtist Church in Little Hocking is hoping to have the field done this summer in time for a co-ed flag football league.
Cheerleading is also offered. This is all through a program called Upward Sports. If you sign up before May 20, 2017, registration is $60.
This covers the cost of the uniform and equipment needed to play. The first game is scheduled for Saturday, September 9, 2017.
"We have a sub list we work through to make sure everybody has an opportunity. It's not just playing the best kids. Every child gets an opportunity to play and to develop in their sport, but also we teach them character. We teach them values. We teach them about having confidence in themselves," said Eric Leeson, Associate Pastor at Porterfield Baptist Church.
