Marietta College held its second annual MOV Entrepreneurship Expo on campus today where aspiring entrepreneurs had the opportunity to talk to business owners in the area.
Keynote speaker Carol Roth spoke about her best-selling book “The Entrepreneur Equation”.
"Being here at Marietta College, I love that they have this commitment to entrepreneurship.” says Roth. “I think entrepreneurs and small businesses are the backbone of the economy. They account for more than half the jobs in our country and more than half the sales.” Roth thinks “it's really important to foster the next generation of entrepreneurs and small business owners."
As the host of Microsoft's Office Small Business Academy, Roth is recognized internationally as a small business expert. She also “plays herself on TV” as a reality TV show judge, invests in mid-stage companies and has been a public company director.
Perry and Associates awarded David Labes as Entrepreneur of the Year for his restaurant Emanuel's which has one location in Marietta and one Parkersburg that opened recently. When traveling across the country in 2015, Labes stopped in Marietta and found the empty building. Within hours it was his, and is now the location of Emanuel’s. They serve fresh food from all over the world and serve baked goods as well. Jodey Altier of Perry and Associates said Labes’ enthusiasm, work ethic and creativity made him the perfect candidate for the award.
