Single-vehicle accident claims life of Jackson County paramedic

RIPLEY, W.Va. (WTAP) - A single-vehicle accident Saturday night claimed the life of a paramedic from Jackson County.

Authorities say the crash happened about midnight near mile-marker 135 between the Fairplain and Ripley exits of Interstate 77.

Jackson County Emergency Services Director Steve McClure says Joshua Harpold, 29, of Ravenswood, was driving his personal vehicle north when he lost control. He was only person in the vehicle.

Harpold had worked with the EMS for more than four years.

“We’re reeling over it,” McClure says. “You hate to lose an outstanding young man like that to an accident.”

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate what caused the crash.
