MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) - Today dozens of Special Olympics bowlers from across southeastern Ohio competed for a bid to the state competition.
It was the Ohio Special Olympics regional bowling tournament at the North Hills Bowling lanes in Marietta. The athletes have bowled and practiced for months for the tournament and are placed in groups of similar skill. Ninety athletes competed and as many as forty could represent our area at the summer games.
Assistant to the Area 8 co-director, Dennis Robertson says, "As everybody has seen recently with the winter Olympics, it's the same thing here with the Special Olympics we give out gold silver and bronze medals for the top three athletes in each division. It's a super great atmosphere, and we love coming here and all the athletes and coaches love coming so it's a great day, we really look forward to it."
The state competition will take place this summer in June.
