Staffing agencies see a lack of people applying for job openings

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP)- The market for those actively looking for jobs seems to be shrinking for staffing agencies in the region.

Specialists at Mancan here in Parkersburg say over the past two years they have seen a difficulty in fulfilling job openings.

They say the unemployment rate for West Virginia stands at 5.1%, just 1% higher than the nation's rate.

Specialists feel the lack of people looking for jobs could be due to the ability to work from home or unemployment insurance lowering incentives.

Clare Norman, staffing specialist at Mancan, says "We have about 40 different positions that we need filled and we just don't have enough people. Really good employees are few and are between, but I'd say the past couple of years have been pretty challenging for us to be able to find enough employees that want to work. And especially ones that want to work like start at the bottom are willing to start at the bottom and work their way up."

Current job openings in the area range from entry level like labor, clinical and industrial to more advance levels like engineers and mechanics.
