WOOD COUNTY, W.Va.-(WTAP) We've told you about a cross-country motorcycle ride to raise awareness for veterans.
According to law enforcement, they're among the many bikers hitting the highways this weekend, making it more important than ever to watch out for them.
West Virginia State Police say drivers need to keep an eye out for motorcyclists, as they head to their own destinations.
The California to Washington, D.C. ride is just one of several events attracting groups of riders on the holiday weekend.
"I know there's Bike Week going on in Myrtle Beach," says State Police First Sgt. B.S. Snodgrass. "You would think that wouldn't affect us, but people going up and down the East Coast travel through here to get there. Make sure you keep an eye out for motorcycles, especially at nighttime."
Motorcycle riders can do their part to stay safe by wearing the proper gear, and-especially where state laws require it-wearing a helmet.
