Two Nelsonville residents arrested after Athens County indictment on drug charges

NELSONVILLE, Ohio - Two Nelsonville, Ohio residents, who were previously indicted by an Athens County Grand Jury on drug charges, were arrested Friday in two separate Ohio counties.

The Athens County Prosecutor’s Office says Samantha Somerville, 22, of Nelsonville, and Parker Ray Elliot, 37, of Nelsonville, were each indicted on Monday, June 12, on the following charges:

Felony illegal cultivation of marijuana, felony illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs, felony trafficking in marijuana, misdemeanor possession of drugs, and felony having weapons while under disability.

Additionally, Elliot was indicted on Felony Conspiracy, and Somerville was indicted on obstruction justice and bond violation.

Elliot was arrested Friday in Vinton County by the Athens County Sheriff’s Office.

Elliot was taken to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail, where he will await arraignment in the Athens County Court of Common Pleas.

Somerville was also arrested Friday, in Hocking County, after prosecutors say she had contacted Elliot by phone to help him escape capture.

Somerville posted bond earlier Friday and was released from jail.

The case was originally investigated by the Major Crimes Unit and Athens County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Unit.

Agencies involved in finding and arresting Elliot and Somerville include the Athens County Prosecutor’s Office, Athens County Sheriff’s Office, Hocking County Sheriff’s Office and Vinton County Sheriff’s Office.
