PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - Two new firefighters have joined the Parkersburg Fire Department and started training this week.

Probationary Firefighters Brian E. Kutcher and Charles T. Frum III were sworn-in on Tuesday at the Parkersburg Fire Department and immediately began the department's 3-month in-house training program.

During training, Kutcher and Frum III will earn the following certifications: Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Hazardous Material Awareness and Operations, Emergency Vehicle Operations, and CPR/AED.

After their 3-month training program is complete, Kutcher and Frum III will start a 3-year apprenticeship program through the U.S. Department of Labor.

During their first year with the Parkersburg Fire Department, both probationary firefighters will be required to pass the department's physical agility test two more times, and their probationary status will end if they successfully pass the required tests at the end of the first year.

Prior to being hired, Kutcher and Frum III completed a Civil Service examination, successfully passed an initial agility test, a physical exam and a thorough background check, and went through an extensive interview process.
