PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - A Wood County grand jury Thursday declined to indict the driver of an ambulance involved in a fatal crash in Parkersburg in 2016.

The grand jury examined evidence in the Sept. 26, 2016 crash, and determined that no criminal charges should be filed against Alesha A. Smith, 23, of Parkersburg.

Parkersburg Police say the 2-vehicle crash happened at the intersection of Route 95 and Rayon Drive.

Smith was driving east on Route 95 in a 2014 Ford ambulance, owned by St. Joseph's Ambulance Service, while responding to an emergency call in Mineral Wells. That's when investigators say Smith's ambulance ran a red light at the Rayon Drive intersection and crashed into a Chevrolet Camaro driven by Ralph D. McMullen, Jr., 53, of Parkersburg.

Parkersburg Police say McMullen was taken to Camden Clark Medical Center and then flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, where he later died from injuries he sustained in the crash.
