Police: No threat at Jackson Middle School

VIENNA, W.VA. (WTAP) - The Vienna Police Department says its aware of reports on social media about a student potentially bringing a firearm to Jackson Middle School.

Vienna Police Chief Mike Pifer says there is no threat of danger.

He says there will be more of a police presence at the school as a precaution.

The school already has a school resource officer. He says the police department and the Wood County Board of Education are looking into it fully.

The Vienna Police Department issued this statement on its Facebook page about the situation. It is in full below:

"The Vienna Police Department is aware of a current rumor involving a student and a firearm at Jackson Middle School. The Vienna Police Department and the Wood County Board of Education are working together on the investigation into this matter. The Vienna Police Department takes any and all allegations seriously and the safety of our students are priority. Vienna PD has been in contact with the alleged student along with the family and will take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of students and staff at the school."
