Washington County Jail receives perfect grade in annual state inspection

MARIETTA, Oh. (WTAP) - Washington County Sheriff's Office announced the results of the state's annual jail inspection. And they say it passed with flying colors.

Washington County Jail is 100 percent compliant with the Standards For Jails in Ohio, set forth in Ohio Administrative Code.

The inspection took place from July 31 to August 1.

Jail administrator Greg Nohe says it's important that the facility live up to these standards.

"There's about 17 different areas in which they check, everything from reception of an inmate to security classifications to our kitchen, mental health and medical is inspected," he said. "It's the responsibility of the sheriff of this county to insure that we house these individuals, we care for these individuals and we take care of them as long as they are in our custody."

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction through the Bureau of Adult detention performs the annual inspection.
