PARKERSBURG, W. Va. (WTAP)- The Parkersburg High Big Reds open things up with a fresh start.
It is officially game week and the Big Reds begin a new chapter in their program in 2017.
With new head coach Mike Byus, things are business as usual heading into the first game week.
St. Albans will be their first test, typically a pass first team, so PHS is set to add additional pressure.
The Big Reds had great showings in their scrimmages, but four injuries have shaken the team, especially under center.
Byus is pleased with the Big Reds' aggressiveness and attack, but now it is all about learning how to prep for each opponent mentally.
"Our big goal is we want to get better today, and we want to get better tomorrow," Byus said.
"Then when the games start, we want to get better from week to week. All we can do is take the talent level that we have at the time and we have to keep getting better every week. Past that, we can't control the rest of it."
"We always talk about controlling the controllables and that's the part we can control. I can only promise you one thing. Our coaching staff and myself are going to come out here with a lot of energy and practice them hard and do our best to put them in a position to attempt to be successful."
On August 25, the Big Reds and St. Albans Red Dragons will battle it out at Stadium Field at 7 p.m.
