Lady Pioneers earn first trip to NCAA tournament

MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP)- They are going dancing! The Marietta College Lady Pioneers heard their named called for the first time to get a spot in the NCAA tournament.

After winning the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament for the first time ever, Marietta College received an automatic bid and will travel to face Illinois Wesleyan on Friday in the opening round.

The Lady Pios have racked up a program best 24 wins and will face the Titans who have the same amount of wins, won the Collegiate Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin tournament.

Marietta college is up for the challenge.

"Beating every team in the OAC, winning at Ohio Northern, beating Capital three times," said second-year head coach Kole Vivian of the team's accomplishments.

"So this is one more challenge that's out of play. They always raise their game to the level of the competition."

"It's so crazy to think we're we've come from," said senior center Jenna Andersen.

"From our freshman year to now. The turnaround in this program as a whole is unbelievable and it goes to attest how hard our coaches work. How hard we work."

"We have to be locked in, bought in, focused," said senior guard AMisha Herd.

"Obviously, it's late in the season, so you have to be either with it or not."

The first and second rounds are on Friday and Saturday, March 2 and 3.
