ST. MARYS, W. Va. (WTAP)- Jodi Mote has led the St. Marys Blue Devils back to the championship game. His resume is impressive and now, just got a little longer.

Mote has been named the National Federation Coaches Association Coach of the Year.

Mote has been at the helm for 16 years and cherishes the honor of coaching at his alma mater.

With 20 years of coaching experience, he led the Blue Devils to a historic and perfect 16-0 record in 2016 on their way to claiming the school's first football title.

St. Marys will try to repeat as champions this weekend.

Mote has driven the Blue Devils to the title game three out of the last four years. He said this award is an honor.

"You have to have players that want to play the game and then you have to have a coaching staff that always wants to work together," Mote said.

"You coach sports and are involved with sports to try and be a positive influence on those student athletes."

Mote will be presented the award at Saturday's championship game 20 minutes before kickoff.
