PARKERSBURG, W. Va. (WTAP)- Nick Johnson has decided to take his talents to Virginia Military Institute to wrestle.
Johnson has 151 wins, 91 pins and a 170-pound weight class state championship in his high school career.
Over the years, Johnson has developed a solid work ethic and hopes to make an immediate impact in the 165 or 174-pound weight class at V.M.I.
Johnson has received several awards for wrestling and football, including the Great American Rivalry Scholar Athlete Award, the Elizabeth Handlan Excellence Award and Lelan Merrill Junior Olympian Award.
Johnson plans to study mechanical engineering and eyes a future in the military either as a marine or in the navy. He said he's ready for the next step.
"It's a big day. Just had graduation yesterday and then signing today is kind of the realization that the next step in my life is coming and it's definitely a good feeling," Johnson said.
"I'm going to be a good teammate. I'm definitely going to encourage the team and I'll be able to hopefully contribute."
