Riverfront Roar returns to Marietta

MARIETTA, OH (WTAP)-There's racing on the Ohio River this weekend as the Riverfront Roar returns to Marietta for powerboat racing and more.

Powerboat racing teams are gathering in the Pioneer city to get ready to kickoff 2 days of racing over the weekend

Boats are staging on Front, Second and Greene streets.

There will be racing in 3 classes of powerboats, and as an added attraction, Jet skiers will take to the river in competition.

The rectangular course is on the Ohio river, from just South of the Marietta levee to the Williamstown bridge.

Heat races begin on Saturday at with the finals set for Sunday

The Riverfront Roar has become a July tradition in the Mid Ohio Valley, as many of the powerboat pilots and their fans return to the area year after year.

The heat wave has broken, so the conditions will be favorable for the pilots and the fans and Race Director Dan Bunting is looking forward to a big weekend on the river at the riverfront roar.
