St. Marys captures Class A title, first championship in school history

WHEELING, W. Va. (WTAP) - WHEELING, W.Va. (AP) - Will Billeter threw for a touchdown and ran for another to lead second-seeded St. Marys to a 23-8 win over No. 1 East Hardy for the Class A championship Saturday night.

St. Marys (14-0) earned the first championship in school history. The Blue Devils lost to Williamstown in triple overtime in the 2014 title game.

Billeter had two interceptions on defense as St. Marys limited East Hardy (13-1) to 265 total yards.

Billeter had a 1-yard scoring run in the second quarter and added a 2-yard TD toss to Dylan Gray in the fourth. St. Marys' Jaiden Smith rushed for 122 yards, including a 15-yard scoring run in the third.

East Hardy lost in the championship game for the second straight season.

East Hardy's lone touchdown came on Phillip Mullins' 6-yard run in the third.
