Tuesday a very prestigious award was given out.
It's the first Jan Dils WTAP Golden Apple Award of the 2013 school year.
It's presented to an outstanding teacher in our area.
Jim Dennis, a history and government teacher of 35 years at Parkersburg South, was bestowed with the honor.
He was nominated by student Sarah Mastrorocco but it was clear that he's beloved and respected by all at Parkersburg South.
He's known for taking subjects often considered boring and making them interesting and relatable to teens.
Dennis stressed that his success was due to having good students and faculty and having teachers when he was in school inspire him to become an educator himself.
He said he knew as far back as grade school that he loved history and wanted to teach.
