She's been helping students solve problems for 41 years. It's Miss Deloris Lipps' hard work both in the classroom and out that earned her the Jan Dils Golden Apple Award for the month of December.

A standing ovation. That's what Miss Lipps got when we announced her as the winner in front of her students at Wirt County High School.

Her students say Miss Lipps teaches more than math lessons. They say she helps her kids develop valuable life skills, like an appreciation for hard work and faith in their own ability to learn.

But she says it's their faith in her that is the greatest reward, "I consider it a great honor, it shows the faith that has been placed in to me as a teacher...the trust, that they trust me to see that they learn the material to help them in the future," says Miss Lipps.
