Legislative audits have uncovered 23 violations of state laws and regulations within the Marshall and West Virginia University athletic departments.

But the audits point out that both athletic departments are taking corrective actions to comply with the recommendations.

Among the violations, Marshall paid bonuses last year to assistant football coaches whose contracts lack performance-based incentives.

The audit also found inadequate records to verify thundering herd ticket sales.

At WVU, the audit found nine maintenance workers received more than $1 million in salaries and benefits over three years, from a facilities construction and reserve account.
