Another Marietta landmark has been hit hard by the recent flooding.
You may remember that the Washington County Fairgrounds was covered by water the day after the heavy rainfall. The fairgrounds was hit by what may be hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage.
The grandstands and the new livestock barn were mostly spared, but in a way the damages may take their toll there as well.
"We were planning a series of fundraisers to pay the extra debt on the building," says fair board member, Don Schafer. "But now without that it won't happen unless we get extra equipment in the kitchen."
In the past week, the fairgrounds has been the site for depositing debris left by the high waters. That pickup is ended Tuesday, but the city of Marietta will continue to collect flood-related garbage on an “as needed” basis.
