Beef Recall

A beef-packing company owned by Smithfield Foods recalled 203,600 pounds of ground beef after some of its meat tested positive for E-coli bacteria.

Moyer Packing is recalling all the beef it made on Aug. 31.

Smithfield and federal agriculture officials say the tainted ground beef was shipped to customers in West Virginia, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Washington, D.C.

Smithfield spokesman David Bartlett says there have not been any reports of illnesses associated with the ground beef.

Giant Food Stores and Stop & Shop Supermarkets are recalling beef from Moyer Packing sold from its stores since September Fifth.

Moyer Packing also had to recall ground beef in 2000, five months before the company was bought by Virginia-based Smithfield Foods.
