Democrat Jim Humphreys said the government hasn't lived up to its pledge earlier this year to limit imports of foreign steel.
Humphreys was joined by the United Steelworkers Union's International President, who agreed the steel crisis needs to be addressed immediately.
"(Humphreys) understands the unfairness of retirees losing their health care," says USW International President Leo Gerard. "He understands the unfairness of shipping our jobs overseas while we give tax breaks to companies who ship them overseas. He understands the importance of shipping goods overseas, but keeping our jobs here."
Humphreys, a former West Virginia delegate, has drawn praise from steelworkers for his support of the union during a 20-month labor dispute with Ravenswood Aluminum, now Century Aluminum and Pechiney Rolled Products, in the early 1990's.
