Crews keep working through snow and cold weather, trying to free four sunken barges at the Belleville locks and dam.
By afternoon, the river level at Belleville had fallen below four feet.
All navigational traffic near the locks has been halted. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers spokesman Chuck Minsker says crews Thursday have been working to free the most difficult of the four barges which have been blocking the lock channels.
Minsker says this week's snowy, cold and icy conditions have been slowing down the recovery process, but that it hasn't brought it to a standstill.
