A Belpre man has been indicted for the deaths of a Caldwell woman and her unborn child.
Nineteen-year-old Mary Santer died last month when the car she was riding in on State Route 821 was hit head on by a truck driven by Jack Wheeler from Belpre.
Wheeler had alcohol and marijuana in his system.
“Jack Wheeler was indicted for two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and one count of aggravated vehicular assault,” said assistant Washington County Prosecutor James Schneider. “The lady passenger in the one car, who was killed, was pregnant at the time, and that was what resulted in the second count, which is causing the unlawful termination of a pregnancy."
Wheeler fled on foot but was tracked down by the Washington County K-9 Unit.
Burt Huntsman, a passenger in Santer's car, was released just Thursday from a Columbus rehabilitation center.
