Last week, Gov. Wise was in Parkersburg to honor the tourism industry in the Mountain State. Now, we have one more reason to celebrate! Parkersburg has another historic site to draw tourists.

Fort Boreman earned a place on the national register of historic places. Wood County Commissioner Bob Tebay says the application was approved Friday.

Now that the site is approved on the state level, it'll now go to the National Park Service for consideration. They have 45 days to consider this proposal. If approved, the National Park Service would add it to its register in one or two months.

More than 22 million visitors came to West Virginia this year bringing in almost $4 billion to the state, and officials hope the Fort Boreman site will bring even more.
