Stopping the Freeze

Could West Virginia roads be safer when the snow and ice hit?

West Virginia Turnpike maintenance crews will soon have a new tool in the fight against icy road conditions.

Last week new sensors were installed at five locations.

A turnpike spokesman says the new system monitors for air, pavement and subsurface temperatures, and wind speed.

These numbers will help salt crews track changes and start spreading the salt before the roadway freezes.
