Verizon has already introduced DSL Internet access in most of West Virginia's other major cities.

Parkersburg is the latest market where the high-speed service will be available for both its customers and for businesses, and Verizon says there will be some differences from similar services.

Gale Given, the head of Verizon's West Virginia operations, made the announcement Monday before the Parkersburg Rotary Club.

The service should be available locally beginning next week.

Verizon is also making a bid to make its own long-distance service available to West Virginia customers.
