There's been some progress in removing one of those sunken barges.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says a section of one of the barges was removed just before 5 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. It was one of two barges that had been wrapped around the number seven gate.
This means six of the eight dam gates are now clear.
Corps spokesman Chuck Minsker says warmer weather from Tuesday and Wednesday has been a help in the recovery efforts.
The problems began January 6 when four barges sank, blocking five of the gates.
Navigational traffic can not resume until all of the gates are clear.
