A Wood County school official charged with DUI has resigned from a committee whose recent tasks have included information on alcohol abuse prevention.
School attendance director John Coe has stepped down as chairman of the County Commission on Crime, Delinquency and Corrections.
Members of that group include local law enforcement and elected officials, as well as educators.
"His stepping aside while this is going on is the honorable thing to do," said Wood County Commission President Rick Modesitt, who also serves as a Crime Commission member. "He certainly is taking his position seriously and he understands he should step aside until this matter is resolved."
Coe was arrested last weekend by sheriff's deputies for driving under the influence.
The arrest happened after authorities say Coe failed several field sobriety tests following an accident Friday night.
