After much discussion, Parkersburg City Council last year approved an ordinance allowing deer hunting to take place in Johnson T. Janes Park.
The city's public works department says hunting this year will take place beginning September 15, lasting until December 31. It is the second year for the hunt.
Applications for a required permit are being taken now through August 17 on the fourth floor of the Parkersburg city building during regular business hours.
30 permits will be granted, at a cost of $20 apiece, but in order to be granted, an applicant must complete a proficiency test.
Tests will be conducted at the Parkersburg Police Firing Range on Keever Street from 5-7 P.M. August 15 and 17, with an alternate date of Saturday, August 18 from 7 A.M-9 A.M., and must be scheduled by telephone.
