OH Rural Driving Dangers

The Ohio Department of Transportation has released its safety report – impaired drivers on rural two-lane roads have twice the risk of a severe or fatal crash.

David Rose, ODOT public information officer says this Labor Day weekend, ODOT and Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) are reminding drivers of the increased dangers of driving impaired on rural roads.

It's all part of the 'Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over' campaign.

“Just make the right decision,” Rose says. “Don't do anything that's going to ruin your life or someone else's or something that you're going to regret. As far as taking another route; in southeastern Ohio sometimes the only route you can take is a rural road.”

Rose says a smart driver doesn't get behind the wheel impaired. He adds that It's important to be a defensive driver and aware of your surroundings.

Contact the Patrol at #677 if you encounter a suspected impaired driver.
