Numerous Parkersburg youngsters are learning how to cross the street and ride their bikes safely, and get out of a burning house, and they're getting a diploma out of it.
Parkersburg is holding its 18th annual Safetytown event.
Students entering the first grade next fall will spend the next two weeks learning how to have fun and be safe.
Although enrollment is down this summer, volunteers are still happy with the turnout, considering the growing number of single-parent families and working parents.
Safetytown is sponsored by Fort Neal Kiwanis, is free, and is held every year at Fairplains Elementary School in Parkersburg.
Separate Safetytown programs also are held in Washington County.
