Area musicians will come together this Thursday to say "Happy Birthday, to ya" to the Beatles.
Some of the Mid-Ohio Valley's best-known singers, song-writers and musicians will perform songs by the Fab Four in a Beatles Birthday Bash at the Smoot Theater, Thursday, July 6 at 7:30 pm. The event is sponsored by FOX Parkersburg.
Among those scheduled to perform are Mike Morningstar and Rick Roberts; Todd Burge; HiPocket; John Gallagher; Plan B; Vinnie and the Lubricators; Britain; Midnight Rose and others.
"This kind of grew out of the fact that Paul McCartney can now say he's officially 64 years old," said event organizer Roger Sheppard, referring to the Beatles song "When I'm Sixty-Four" from the "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album. At the time that album was released on June 1, 1967, McCartney was still 24. He turned 64 on June 18.
"Also, Ringo Starr's 66th birthday is July 7," Sheppard said, "so this just seemed like a good reason for folks to hear some great music and have some fun, too."
The event will feature non-stop music, narratives, and some audio-visual elements as well, Sheppard said. It is being coordinated through the Smoot and the Smoot's "Number One Volunteer," Felice Jorgeson.
All proceeds from the event will go to support the Smoot, the last Vaudeville-era theater in Parkersburg still operating in its original form.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students through high school age. Reservations can be made by calling (304) 422-PLAY(-7529). Tickets will also be available as the door the evening of the event.
