It's almost Thanksgiving and that means many people will be preparing the biggest meal of the year, but according to the National Fire Protection Association, it's also the day with the most kitchen fires.
Firefighters in the Mid-Ohio Valley say they haven't really seen a lot of Thanksgiving fires, but say it's always better to be safe than sorry.
"Just use common sense when you're cooking. Keep anything away from the stove that can catch on fire. Keep towels, keep paper towels, any type of paper products away from the kitchen," John Smithberger, a firefighter with the Marietta Fire Department, said.
Some other tips for preventing fires are to stay in the kitchen when cooking, and if you do leave the kitchen turn off the stove.
Also, use a timer to remind you when the oven is on., and avoid wearing loose clothing that could catch fire.
