Marietta Leaders Trying to Find Some Money

Marietta city leaders are trying to find ways to pay for several large capital projects.

They include city hall renovations, bike path extension and the armory, but the recreation center is still the most expensive.

Many details still need to be worked out for the estimated $12 million project.

City Leaders say, "The cost of the center, cost of the operation, cost of retirement, bonds we need, we're looking for the money the city can put up in grants and aids. Once we get that entire package together, usually somewhere in the middle of August, we'll wrap this up and put in a nice package and put in on the ballot in November.”

The 59,000 square foot rec center will raise taxes approximately 0.2 percent.
