False Amber Alert Sent from Coast to Coast

By  |

Tuesday, a fake amber alert was sent to folks in Pleasants County.

Well, it turns out that same message is reaching cell phones all across the nation.

The false alert claims that a seven-year-old child had been abducted.

Officials from the National Center of Missing Persons say that any forwarded amber alert shouldn't be taken too seriously.

"When the public thinks they're helping by forwarding an Amber Alert text message or forwarding an e-mail, they are really not, because that takes on a life of itself," according to Robert Hoever of the National Center for Missing Persons.

Hoever said the best way to check the accuracy of this type of message is by going to www.amberalert.gov and looking at state contacts.
