Charleston, W.Va. (AP) -- Gov. Joe Manchin and the Division of Natural Resources are thinking about tinkering with the traditional start of West Virginia's biggest hunting season for deer.

The two-week gun season for bucks starts on the Monday before Thanksgiving.

Manchin and the DNR are considering moving the start to the Saturday before Thanksgiving to give hunters an additional day in the woods.

Opponents say the move is an attempt to allow Sunday hunting, something voters in 41 counties rejected in 2002.

DNR spokesman Hoy Murphy says Sunday hunting would have to be reviewed if the change is adopted.

The two-week season attracts about 350,000 hunters to the woods, and last year the DNR said 66,851 deer were killed.
