Local Reaction to President Obama's Speech

Many Americans tuned in Tuesday night as President Barack Obama made his first speech to congress.

"I didn't hear too much about how he's going to fix all of this," Janet Sowers, who watched the speech, said.

Sowers listened carefully as President Obama spoke to congress and the nation.

"If you haven't been personally affected by this recession, you probably know someone who has," President Obama said.

"I enjoy hearing him, but it's the same old speech over and over again," Sowers said.

A speech that leaves Sowers asking questions about just how President Obama plans to weather this economic storm, but is giving others a sense of inspiration.

"I think he's taking action and his speech was kind of a call to arms for us as a large community," Jack Frech, who also watched the speech, said.

The President also praised Americans for their positive attitudes, and even those who remain a little skeptical, are keeping their chins up.

"He'll get some things done, but I don't know how much it's gonna cost us. That's what I'm a little worried about," Sowers said.

President Obama also emphasized that the nation's economic problems can't be fixed overnight, and that it's going to take some time to get back on track.
