A half-dozen architectural firms are vying to do the design work for the renovation of Towne Square in downtown Parkersburg.
The Wood County commission recently purchased most of the 20-year-old complex, for additional space for existing county offices.
“It's quite a bit different than, say, demolition, where the low bid is the low bid. But when you are talking about architectural or professional services, the bid process is slightly different,” says Rick Modesitt.
Commission president Rick Modesitt says an architect has to be hired, before bids on the renovation are taken from construction firms.
“When we go into design of the facility, the final stage will be taking their bid specifications and putting those out to bid for contractors for them to bid on,” Modesitt adds.
The commission plans to interview representatives of the six firms, before making a final decision on hiring an architect.
