Just months before WTAP went on the air, Wanda Peppel was hired at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
Thursday is her last day working there.
Peppel got a big send-off this afternoon from her fellow employees.
She started work at the hospital in 1953, when she was just 18, and Wednesday, she works in the hospital laboratory.
“When I first started here, I didn't know my way around the hospital. When I wanted to come to the dietary department, I always ended up in the boiler room. It's a really, really big change; it's almost tripled, maybe quadrupled,” explains Peppel.
Peppel says she's often mistaken for her sister, who is long-time Washington County treasurer Dorothy Peppel.
