The city of Marietta is working to go wireless; hoping to upgrade the current broadband network so that a signal can be reached throughout the city and beyond.

Mayor Michael Mullen met with the Washington County Commission Thursday to discuss a request for $470,000 in stimulus money for the project.

Mayor Mullen says it would benefit everything from monitoring water meters to increasing safety and public service.

"We want to be in the lead of technology; be able to say 'we are wireless and ready.' The city of Marietta is embracing the knowledge-based economy of the future," Mayor Mullen said.

Mayor Mullen says an upgraded network would be a cheaper and faster distribution of wireless signals.
