Columbus, Ohio (AP) -- Aluminum maker Ormet Corp. says it is seeking a court order against Glencore International AG to prevent the Swiss commodities trader and producer from halting alumina deliveries to its southeast Ohio plant.
Ormet says it filed on Thursday for a preliminary injunction from the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.
The Canonsburg, PA.-based company says it has a contract for the alumina deliveries and that stopping shipments would force it to close its aluminum-producing plant in Hannibal, which employs about 1,000 workers.
Glencore spokesman Marc Ocskay says some alumina shipped to Ormet comes from a refinery that has been temporarily shut down, and the company is not required to provide it from another source.
