Campus Police at Marietta College say about 40 female students are now better prepared to defend themselves.

Campus and City Police worked together to provide a series of self-defense classes to college students, and the last one wrapped up last night.

Police say they decided to offer the class after an assault that happened on campus last month.

They say the feedback from the students was great, and they hope to offer the class every semester.

"Marietta is a very safe community, but at the same time they're not always going to stay here, as they go out into the world. It's another educational opportunity that we're providing outside of the classroom," Campus Police Chief David Valkinburg said.

Chief Valkinburg says they're planning to have an officer and a female civilian employee trained in Rape Aggressive Defense, also known as Rad, which is taught at many other college campuses.
