Charleston, W.VA. (AP) -- U.S. Sen. Robert C. Byrd has been hospitalized with what his office calls a "minor infection."
Byrd's office said Monday that the 91-year-old Democrat was hospitalized Friday afternoon after a spike in his temperature.
Byrd's office blames a minor infection for the temperature and says he is responding well to antibiotics.
Spokesman Jesse Jacobs says Byrd is talking with staff and doing well.
Byrd is expected to be released within a few days.
Byrd, the longest-serving senator in American history, was hospitalized last June for treatment of a mild infection.
