Several streets in Marietta were closed off and re-routed Thursday afternoon not because of construction but because of a natural gas leak.

Firefighters say this area on 7th Street in front of the YMCA has the highest concentration of gas. You can tell by just standing here how strong the odor is.

As a precaution, authorities evacuate homes and businesses in a one block vicinity of the gas leak.

Motorists who had parked near the YMCA were asked to push their cars off rather than drive them.

The fire department is still unsure how much gas escaped from the leak.
