Some say small businesses are the ones being hit the hardest by the recession, but a local family is still taking on the challenge of purchasing a book store and fixing it up.
Keith Malone and his family purchased Sugden Book Store on Front Street in Marietta, after the previous owner closed it for repairs in January.
They've reworked the store with a new layout, new supplies and a fresh coat of paint.
They're also currently renovating a children's area as well as a coffee shop.
"You just have to be aggressive in increasing sales, and looking at what you can do new to bring people in, and hopefully then when the economy rebounds you'll just ride that back up with the economy," Malone said.
Malone says the shop has been open for a few weeks, and so far business has been steady.
